Special Services

Special Services - Home

Administers the district's Special Education Program K-12 including:

  • monitoring all Individual Educational Plans
  • attending local, county and state meetings
  • providing staff development for all special education staff
  • coordinating all placements and transportation for special education students
  • providing input to evaluation of special education personnel
  • supervising the delivery of psychological services
  • supervising the delivery of Health Services
  • supervising special programs and grants including:
    • Adult Education
    • Special Education Preschools (NRIS)
    • Alcohol, tobacco and drug use prevention
    • Prepares and monitors budgets for all above programs
    • Supervises Inter-District Attendance Agreements
    • Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Superintendent

Community Advisory Committee

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) acts in an advisory capacity to the Solano Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). It involves the community in actively participating in the development, amendment and review of the Solano County SELPA's Local Plan for Special Education. The CAC is designed to include parent representatives from within the county, as well as local educators and interested community members. 

Meetings take place every month at the SELPA Office in the Pena Adobe Room located at 5100 Business Drive, Fairfield, CA 94534. Please click here for the 2014-2015 schedule. 

Common Core and Smarter Balance Assessments

Benicia Unified School District continues to navigate the transition to the Common Core Standards which have been adopted by the State of California.  The 2014 - 2015 school year will mark Benicia Unified's first full administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessment which will take the place of the STAR test.  Below you will find further information on both the Common Core Standards and the Smarter Balanced Assessment.
